ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY
EBCI Public Health & Human Services have created work groups to carry out strategic priorities of the division. The Engage the Community Workgroup is comprised of various PHHS team members, including the Public Relations team.

We chose to focus on food insecurities within the community. The team compiled a list including local and surrounding communities’ resources. You may find that here.

As well, we began a project to create community garden beds at various PHHS programs such as Tribal Foods Distribution, Senior Citizens, Qualla Boundary Head Start & Early Head Start, Beloved Women & Children’s Center, Syringe Services, Family Safety, and the Administration Building.

The community garden beds are currently in direct access to five of those programs and include squash, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, and green beans. You can visit the vegetable baskets placed in the Beloved Women’s and Children’s Center lobby & Administration Building lobby or pick anything you may need straight from the garden beds in the median of John Crowe Hill, along the edge of the Syringe Services Program, and along the Administration Building.
